Installing Pergo Over Carpet

Plywood is highly recommended when installing over high pile carpet.

Pergo hardwood must be installed above grade. If you re laying pergo over concrete remove all carpet trim and other things covering the sub floor to expose the concrete underneath. Pergo laminate and engineered flooring can be installed on any level of your home. Installing laminate flooring over carpet is not recommended in most installation situations.

Pergo laminate and locking engineered planks simply click together. If you are using more than one sheet of plywood tape the sheets together at the seam. Before laying pergo it s a good idea to smooth out the concrete to make sure that you ve got the flattest surface possible for the new installation. If you have severe allergies stirring up all the dust and dirt that may be settled into the carpet could keep you sneezing for weeks.

Why not just tear up the carpet. You can re install the molding afterward or install a pergo shoe molding that matches the floor. When placing plywood sheets over plush carpet lay them in the opposite direction the floor will go. Pergo floors can be walked on as soon as they re installed.
